SCHOOL HISTORY

 

1975 October         The Japanese Language School of Greater Cincinnati was established at Mt. Auburn Church with Mr. King Tanaka, Principal and 10 teachers.

 

1980 March           The first Graduation Ceremony was held.

April           Junior high school was established.          

 

1981 May             First Sports Day was held.

 

1984 April           PTA was established.

June            The school was moved to the University of Cincinnati

 

1985 December        The 10th anniversary of the school was commemorated.

 

1986 April           Anniversary School Yearbook was published.

November        Senior high school was established.

 

1991 March           The 15th anniversary of the school was commemorated.

March           Support group for the Japanese Language School was

                established.

April           The first Principal appointed by the Japanese Ministry of

                     Education arrived from Japan.

April           Elementary and Jr. High student enrollment exceeded 100.

 

1992 February        First Open House was held.

September       School office was moved to Blue Ash.

 

1993 April            Second Open House was held.

July             School moved to Northern Kentucky University.

       

1994 April            The second Principal appointed by the Japanese Ministry

                     of Education arrived from Japan.

July             School office moved to Northern Kentucky University.

October         Third Open House was held.

December        The 20th edition of the school biannual magazine, "Ohio

                River", was published by the PTA.

 

1995 July             Japanese Ministry of Education and the Japan Overseas

                     Education Services visited to provide guidance.

October         Fourth Open House was held.

December        The 20th anniversary of the school was commemorated.

                The first School Symbol and Song were adopted.

 

1996 June             JLS held a conference for Japanese Schools in the Chicago

and Detroit consulate regions.

June             Japanese Ministry of Education and the Japan Overseas

                Education Services visited to provide guidance.

November        Fifth Open House was held.

November        School web site in Japanese established.

 

1997 April            The third Principal appointed by the Japanese Ministry of

                     Education arrived from Japan.

November        Sixth Open House was held.

 

1998 October          7th Open House was held.

 

1999 October          8th Open House was held.

 

2000 April            The fourth Principal appointed by the Japanese Ministry

                     of Education arrived from Japan.

October          9th Open House was held.

 

2001 October          10th Open House was held.

 

2002 October          11th Open House was held.

 

2003 April            The 5th Principal appointed by the Japanese Ministry of

                     Education arrived from Japan.

 

2007 April            The 6th Principal appointed by the Japanese Ministry of

                     Education arrived from Japan.

 

2008 October          17th Open House was held.

 

2009 October          18th Open House was held.

 

2010 April            The 7th Principal appointed by the Japanese Ministry of

                     Education arrived from Japan.

 

     October          19th Open House was held.

 

     November         JLS 35th Anniversary Commemoration.

 

2011 October          20th Open House was held.

 

2012 October          21st Open House was held.

 

2013 October          22nd Open House was held.

 

2014 October          23rd Open House was held.

 

2015 October          24th Open House was held

 

2016 October          25th Open House will be held. 

 

 

EDUCATIONAL GOALS

 

1.        To prepare students to become responsible, compassionate, well-rounded adults.

2.        To educate all students at a grade-appropriate level in line with the Japanese National Curriculum.

3.        To encourage a positive attitude towards learning, responsible judgment and the ability to act independently.

4.        To foster our students’ knowledge and appreciation of their native language and culture.

 

 

ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY

 

1.        To educate our students in the Japanese tradition.

2.        To join with students to create a warm, friendly atmosphere conducive to learning and the ability to act independently.

3.        To provide students with a firm grounding in their own culture and a broad-mindedness and understanding of International society to prepare them for the future.
